5 Decades in Hospitality: 5 Lessons That Still Guide Us

After fifty years of projects, partnerships, and problem-solving, these are the lessons that continue to shape how we work.

Reaching fifty years in business is no small milestone. Over the decades, we’ve worked on projects across the country, partnered with incredible teams, and navigated just about every curveball the hospitality industry can throw our way.

Some lessons came from big wins. Others came from figuring things out in real time. Each one has helped shape the way we approach projects today.

Here are five lessons that have stuck with us after five decades in the business.

1. Relationships Are the Real Foundation

Projects have timelines. Relationships last much longer. Some of our best partnerships started with a single hotel and grew into years of collaboration. Trust, communication, and showing up when it matters most keep projects and partnerships moving forward.

2. No Two Projects Are Ever the Same

Even when brand standards are familiar, every project brings its own challenges. Different sites, timelines, budgets, and teams mean there is always something new to solve. After fifty years, one thing is certain. Adaptability is one of the most valuable tools in the toolbox.

3. The Details Are Where Success Lives

In hospitality, the details matter. A delivery window, a finish selection, or a small installation adjustment can make the difference between a project that works and one that truly shines. The little things are never really little in this industry.

4. Communication Solves Most Problems

Projects involve many moving parts. Designers, contractors, vendors, owners, and operators all play a role. The more clearly everyone communicates, the smoother everything runs. When challenges come up, good communication is usually the fastest path to a solution.

5. Experience Makes You Faster, Smarter, and Better

Fifty years means thousands of lessons learned along the way. Every project adds to the knowledge we bring to the next one. That experience helps us anticipate challenges, stay flexible, and deliver results that work in the real world, not just on paper.

The Next 50

Looking back on five decades is something we are incredibly proud of. Hospitality continues to evolve, and the next chapter is just as exciting. New projects, new partnerships, and new opportunities to keep learning.

After fifty years, one thing has not changed. We still love the work.
